Experientialism: A New Musical Genre for Collective Expression

By Carlos Jose Martinez Paulino.

In the realm of music, a new genre has emerged - one that defies conventions and embraces the spontaneity of human expression. This genre, formally known as "VIVENCIAL MUSICAL INTERIOR DESIGN," invites musicians and artists to engage in a unique form of musical creation, transcending traditional boundaries.

Experientialism encourages a profound connection with the orchestra and fellow performers, focusing on the power of expression through sound. In this genre, there are no notes to read; instead, musicians rely on their instincts, emotions, and the harmonious interplay of sounds to create a symphony of genuine creativity. It's a realm where the senses revel in both solo and collective musical creations.

Unlike traditional music, experientialism shuns established rhythms and genres. Instead, it celebrates the unrestricted creativity that emerges from the souls of performers. This genre is entirely experiential, driven by the beauty of sounds and a sense of fullness, invoking an authentic state of being that flows from spontaneous inspiration and the heart of each performer.

Experientialism seeks to provide a musical journey that alleviates stress through spontaneous, expanding sonorities. In this genre, when a musician plays a beautiful note on their instrument, others respond instinctively, seeking the right moment to join in and enrich the evolving theme.

In essence, experientialism places musicians and singers in a state of inspiration reminiscent of history's great geniuses but in a wholly interactive way with a group. It's no longer about creating symphonies solely from individual ingenuity, but about inviting fellow creators to contribute, forging works of high expressive quality, latent spontaneity, and incredible versatility.

Here, expression is not sacrificed for intellectual preparation; instead, all are welcome to compose, enjoy, and celebrate the joy of singing through music in the present sacred moment.

Musicians enter the performance when they feel compelled to do so, and the skill of perceiving tonality develops organically within the movement. This musical style has the potential to produce virtuosos and expand the boundaries of musical expression.

Experientialism transcends cultural and rhythmic constraints, allowing musicians to express various feelings and evocations. Musicians of different skill levels can collaborate, and even prodigious musicians can channel their virtuosity into this spontaneous musical movement, playing from the heart.

The genre defies nationality and instrument type; it celebrates notes that originate from within, free from any established composition. Experientialism is an invitation for every human being to develop their musical capacity, express themselves authentically, and evolve their unique musical expression.

To embark on this musical journey, one must possess:

Internal alignment: A state of consciousness where one is unafraid to be themselves, fueled by inspiration.

Emotion recognition: The ability to bring forth various emotions through sounds, chords, and themes, whether before, during, or after expression.

Instrument familiarity: Understanding one's instrument positions.

Group harmony: The capacity to harmonize with a group or create a foundation for others to follow.

Experientialism is a space for feeling, building, and sharing music. It's a means of releasing emotions, enriching themes, harmonizing with fellow musicians, enhancing originality, and adapting as necessary - all in the pursuit of freedom.

Questions may arise: What if the notes played don't harmonize within the chords? What if multiple emotions are linked within the music's underlying harmony? Experientialism welcomes these challenges as opportunities for growth, change, and the creation of highly versatile works of art.

Regarding the future of experientialism, it holds the potential to coexist with classical and other musical genres. It encourages a deeper understanding of music's origins and practices, promoting greater appreciation for the art of composition. Experientialism may become a vital element in live performances, allowing musicians to express their innermost emotions and experiences to the audience.

The essence of experientialism lies in its encouragement of sincere, spontaneous musical expression. While written music requires interpretation, experientialism demands that musicians become the music, revealing themselves fully. It offers an open dialogue, free from inhibition, within the collective musical discourse.

Notes from a field study with a children's music band highlight the transformative power of experientialism. Initially reserved, young musicians eventually embraced this novel form of expression, creating spontaneous, emotional compositions that reflected their experiences and emotions.

As of October 2, 2022, experientialism invites musicians to participate in an intriguing musical exercise called "ADORATION." This exercise encourages individuals to express their feelings about a higher power through musical notes, allowing them to connect deeply with their spiritual beliefs.

Experientialism challenges us to consider whether the work invents the artist or if, in fact, we all possess the potential to create without fear. It beckons everyone to embrace this universal opportunity for musical expression, inviting us to discover, enhance, and share the music that resides within our hearts.

As the experientialism movement unfolds, it is a celebration of being, vibrating, sharing, feeling, and ultimately, loving through the language of music.

Discovering and enhancing what it transmits, feeling connected and accompanied is the work that has already begun, it is only worth being, vibrating, sharing, feeling... Loving.
